Jonathan Torres and Antonio Marin, both of Springfield, were arrested around 2:20 p.m., Friday, July 16, while officers were addressing numerous citizens’ complaints about drug and gun activity as well as loitering on Fernwold Street in Springfield, said Ryan Walsh, spokesman for the Springfield Police Department.
According to Walsh, officers spotted six people loitering around a truck and a car in the area including Torres and Marin, who officers had previously trespassed from the area after a June arrest.
When an officer placed Torres, age 28, into custody he immediately felt a firearm in his waistband. The high-capacity firearm was loaded with 16 rounds of ammunition, Walsh said.
The truck, which belonged to Marin, age 27, was towed. During a search officers recovered approximately 10.5 grams of cocaine, oxycodone, and more than $3300 in cash, he added.
Another unoccupied car was left running in the area. The registered owner was not on the scene.
Officers recovered another loaded high-capacity firearm inside.
The firearm was reported stolen out of North Carolina.
Torres was charged with:
- Carrying a firearm without a license
- Carrying a loaded large-capacity firearm on a public way
- Trespassing
- Violation of city ordinance – loitering
Marin was charged with:
- Two counts of possession with the intent to distribute a Class B Drug
- Trespassing
- Violation of city ordinance – loitering
